KMZ means KML-zipped (Keyhole Markup Language Zipped) which is a compressed version of the KML file. Images, for example, can be stored in this KMZ file and be sent alone as an attachment to an email. Google Earth and Google Maps are capable of reading both .KML and KMZ files as well as creating KMZ files. KMZ files can contain images, placemarks, coordinates, 3D model data and so much more.
