MDB is Microsoft Access database file used in Microsoft Access versions prior to 2003. These files are based on the Access Jet Database Engine. MDB files contain the main portion of the database information, and are referenced by other database files.

Based on the Access Jet Database Engine, MDB files can be exported into .txt or .csv formats inside of Microsoft Access, or using an MDB Converter. The files may then be read by a plain text editor or imported into another database program. The MDB file uses a MIME-type of application/x-msaccess.
