What is a .SHA256 file?
The most common data format on the web.
A .sha256 file is a small plain-text file holding a 64-character SHA-256 fingerprint of another file. You use it to confirm a download arrived without corruption or tampering: compute the SHA-256 hash of your file and compare it to the value inside. On Windows run `certutil -hashfile yourfile.iso SHA256` or `Get-FileHash yourfile.iso` in PowerShell. On macOS and Linux run `sha256sum -c file.sha256`. If the hashes match, the file is intact.
