What is a .VDPROJ file?

A VDPROJ file is a Visual Studio Setup and Deployment Project, a plain-text file that drives generation of a Windows MSI installer. To open one, install the free Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects extension in Visual Studio 2013 or later (support was dropped in VS 2012). For new projects, Microsoft recommends WiX Toolset or MSIX instead.
